What to Expect

If you’ve never been in therapy before, it can feel daunting to call and to come in for the first time. The following description will give you a very brief introduction as to what you can expect. Keep in mind this is only for example purposes. Your specific situation will lead to a personalized scenario.

Initially, we get started with a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation. During this conversation, we’ll discuss your background and what challenges in your life are bringing us together. I’ll ask you your expectations of me, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. At that time, I will be glad to provide you with a little bit of my history, my background and my initial thoughts about what we can achieve together.

Like all relationships, the one between you and your therapist needs to feel comfortable to you from the start. At the end of our initial phone consultation, you and I will decide together where we should go from there. If you are comfortable with me, and I believe that I can provide the help you are looking for, we can schedule an initial appointment at that time.

People usually experience a great feeling of relief even after their first session just from having been able to open up to someone else. After our first office session, we can determine a proper course of action going forward. We can discuss future sessions, how often those sessions should occur, what we hope to accomplish in those sessions, etc.
